Motivation Monday with SEAC(R) John Wayne Troxell: Empowerment vs. Entitlement.

Happy Monday everybody, I’m SEAC(R) John Wayne Troxell here, and this is your Motivation Monday brought to you by Veterans Lending Group.

Today, I want to talk to you about two things that are absolutely critical to organizational performance and to high performing teams, whether it’s in the military or in business. And that’s Empowerment and Entitlement.

Now, Entitlement can be good or bad. There are certain things that members of an organization that they are truly have a right to have or be able to do. That’s the good part – the bad part is that there are some things out there that members think should be given to them, such as privileges or preferential treatment, just because. Empowerment on the other hand is a combination of training, education, and experiences all brought together for the individual that is put through a certification process, whether it’s formal or informal, and the output is trust. And once you have trust, whether that’s trust between the individual in the organization, or the individual in the hierarchy or the individual and his teammates or her teammates or the trust in themselves, you can now Empower! And once someone can be Empowered, the sky is the limit because they can reach their untapped potential.

They can exercise discipline initiative. They can grow and develop to places they’ve never been. And they will get stronger and more confident and they will be a better asset to the team and the team will continue to grow and reach the organizational goals. So don’t wait around to have something given to you, go earn it.
